Thought that might of been the case. Its a shame you dont have a male becasue colonies are much stronger with them. If only you source them from Australia we have heaps, more and more are keeping them and the prices are going down.
Yeah cheers Orin, I have looked at this book but I'm more interested in the other book becasue it has about 40 aussie species on colour plates. But the other book would be good for breeding advice like making a kinishi bottle etc.
Hey guys, does anyone have the book The lucanid beetles of the world by Tetsuo Mizunuma & Shinji Nagai? I'm thinking about trying to get it down the track and I want to know if it is worth the money especially if you cant read Japanese. It certainly looks good anyway. Thanks
Um not yet, Australia only has 3 large species like Xylotrupes ulysses and Haploscapnes. I am going to give X. ulysses a go this year but Haploscapnes I think is a bit rarer. Apart from that you cant import insects into the country .
I would show some pics of my Lucanids but I dont have many of them becasue I haven't been collecting for very long and the ones I do have are tiny.
Hi guys,
I dont keep any species from out of Australia because of our strict laws But I have a few aussie lucanids but they tend to be small. But there are some bigger species like Phalacrognathus muelleri which I keep as well as Prosopocoilus torresensis and Dorcus Wickhami which I am still trying to get my hands on. Has anyone been collecting in Australia before? I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has as I haven't had that much success.
Cheers
Stuart
