so on friday my mother brought home a hercules beetle larva (very large one) since a preschooler dug it up (she works as a teacher), and gave it to me, idk anything abt these beetles or really how to care for them but i had gotten some instructions from my mother (put in undisturbed soil, moist/damp soil, and rotting wood for it to eat, its currently in one of my (unused) terrainium, (it was being used until i had gotten a bigger terrainium and moved everybody out, it did have some mold/fungal problems a little though), she had also gotten 2 plants from the store for the terrainium it was going to be staying in (1 ivy, 1 fern) when she had brought the larva home, it was a lighter color and responded to touches and when i had held it, but almost 2 days later when i go to check up on it (dug it out of the dirt, dirt was still damp and a little cool) its more squishy now, its almost a black/dark faded purple color, and unmoving. i searched up on google and it said it was either molting or idk turning into a beetle or that it was dead. i really want to know so that i can help it if its still alive at least

Yep, if grubs change color at all (other than a little yellow) they're dead.
