    Exotics legality?

Is everything still the same regarding the legality of exotic beetles in the U.S.? Will this change in the future? I can’t really sell or trade anything exotic due to these regulations, so I was wondering if anything has changed.

What flake soil would y'all recommend for S. Aloeus larva? What shops should I buy from?

It just takes longer to make in colder temperatures, but do try to avoid very cold temps. I personally don’t mind the smell, but as long as it is sealed inside the fermentation box it should be good. One thing to watch out for is mold outbreaks, but they are easily avoidable if the flake soil is...

What flake soil would y'all recommend for S. Aloeus larva? What shops should I buy from?

That is true, but his has free shipping. Nevertheless, flake soil is expensive so you might consider making your own batch. It’s not that hard if you live somewhere warm, but it is a bit time consuming.

What flake soil would y'all recommend for S. Aloeus larva? What shops should I buy from?

    S. aloeus are not picky with their substrate, as long as it is fermented enough. I’ve used Peter Clausen’s flake soil for S. aloeus in the past and it’s worked nicely.

How are the exportation laws in Singapore? Maybe you could distribute them to other breeders in Asia.

Yep, I managed to feed mine a little banana, but she did not live long.

    Lucanus elaphus!

Thanks! I’ve kept Elaphus in the past, but they were inbred or something. Either way, no larvae were produced. Hopefully these originally wild individuals will reproduce.

    Chrysina psittacina emergence!

Now that I can actually upload photos, here is the C. psittacina. Kind of resembles woodi, but the legs are golden, as well as parts of the thorax.

    Lucanus elaphus!

I found these as L1s on a trip to Mississippi a year ago, and am hoping to breed them since their gene pool isn’t as reduced as other captive specimens.

Most Reliable Places to Find Beetles?

Usually the only beetles available at expos are darklings, which are very easy to care for. A good way to start would be to purchase some mealworms from your local pet store and experiment with their care, as they are inexpensive but entertaining to watch.

    beetle capture help

I have no experience with Xylotrupes, but sometimes multiple beetles of the same species come to the same trap. If you do find multiple individuals you should try to breed them, especially if they’re uncommon.

    Is the beetle hobby dying/dead?

I also think all the restrictions preventing the distribution of beetles in the U.S. has impeded the hobby’s growth.

Yes, there is so much valuable information here! I wonder if we could have a fundraiser or something to help with the increasing funds.

Will a female beetle lay eggs if her enclosure doesn't contain flake soil?

I have bred ox beetles in a substrate comprised of around 60% well-rotten leaves, the rest being wood and compost.

    Tetracha carolina?

Is anybody else keeping Tetracha carolina? If so, I can’t seem to find much information on breeding them and want to breed my adults. I think Cicindelids should be more common in the hobby. -Thank you!

    Goliathus difficulty?

Hello, I have not kept Goliathus in the past, as I have heard they are a more advanced species to keep. Nevertheless, I have kept Cotinis nitida for a few generations and successfully raised them through pupation. How difficult is Goliathus, in comparison to Cotinis? Thank you!
