  1. Aww, looks like I have X.j and I was really hoping for D.t. Well I may try to get a D.t. pupa from somebody on here.
  2. So I looked at the 3 segments behind head capsule. There is setae on the 1st segment, but not the 2nd or 3rd, then setae starts again. All the setae on the entire body are of the same length and thickness.
  3. I still do not see a difference between X.J and D.T. Is it the big spots, little spots, or the black head & mouth parts? By the way I found these 2 larva so thats why its bewteen X.J. and D.T.
  4. This is all I have at the moment. Video of my 2 larva. I will check those links out now! Thanks
  5. No one has answered my query as to how to tell the larva apart - dynastes tityus, dynastes granti, Popillia japonica, or Xyloryctes jamaicensis apart? yes I meant the japanese beetle popillia, as it looks just like a very young dyanstes/xylorcytes.
  6. So I am new to beetle keeping and this site. I have some larva, people think they are either Dynastes titylus or Xyloryctes jamaicensis. All photos of those 2 larva look very much alike. Also, the rhino beetles look a lot like Japanese beetle larva. Is there an easy way to tell these apart? Also does anyone every ship/sell the beetle pupaa??
  7. Aw, I was really hoping these were Dynastes tityus. A few other people thought so..... guess I will have to wait and see.
  8. So I have had my 2 larva for a week now. I was worried they were not eating but (thanks to a pic on this forum) tonight I dug out a ton of poop! So they are eating and pooping almost as much as caterpillars. Here is a video of them below. So I read that Dynastes tityus (which is probably what i have since Granti seems to be further southwest from me) live for at least a year in the larva stage. Given how big mine are, they are probably L3 - so how long before they pupate? Or how long do they stay L3? I think I shall start misting my enclosure twice a day since the soil was very dry, and tomorrow I will add more soil and rotting wood to the enclosure. I do worry a bit that with 3 inches deep of soil, the poop may get lost down in the dirt ---- OR do the larva usually only poop near the top where they eat? My larva:
  9. Yes they are Dynastes Tityus or Dynastes Granti.
  10. Hi, I live in NC and I have just recently found (and am keeping) 2 rhino beetle larva. I have always enjoyed most animals, and I am working to make a career out of it.
