  1. although question is addressed not to me, let me just comment what I know for fact, from well reliable sources: as I know, there are no people in Thailand who does beetles breeding as a full time activity and the only main source of income. just now I returned back home after chit-chatting with my friend, who does insect business already min 18 years, and recently got interested in this new business option. he is still quite reluctant to start this in full, and the main reason he told me is : "the demand is not so high ... " so, I think what timestamp actually means by saying "professionals" is actually - that members of that Forum (and there are several other Forums) already have a lot of experience and success in breeding beetles on a professional level. they surely do some trade and exchange - but as I know so far this business is not as developed as say in Japan or Taiwan. although some individuals (as Mr. Pisuth in Bangkok, author of book "Beetles of Thailan" and newer book especially on breeding - but only in Thai - and his son in Chiang Mai, who now takes care of the "Insect Zoo" there - see their website which has posts both in Engl and in Thai, although their Forum is only in Thai) are making consistent efforts in promoting beetles as pets, as well as started to sell some accessories, as substrate, decayed wood, larvae, etc. yet still, as I know, there is no any single shop in Bangkok which might have all the variety of tools, food, boxes etc. for beetles breeding - as for example in Taiwan and Japan. in comparison, there are so many shops in Bangkok selling all such things for other pets as fishes, reptiles, cats, dogs etc. however there is only 1 single shop which sells only adult beetles, no any other things for their breeding.
  2. well, actually at present moment there are like 5-6 pairs of them still available (C. atlas). also, perhaps will be avail. 5 horned beetles (E. gracilicornis) so, if your friends are interested - you can refer them. (or drop me a PM)
  3. thanks, Peter actually I like females more - their elytra although a bit dull comparing to more glossy males', however it has more texture and hues of violet and purple. perhaps I'll try to get them for photo posing one day ! (now I don't want to disturb them from their important business of procreation )
  4. I don't have so many like you - because I'm just a beginner, only started very recently. so, here is what I have now : Adults 1) 3 horn beetles C. Atlas - 2 pairs (females are laying eggs now - well, I hope so ! ) 3) fighter-beetle X. gideon - 2 pairs + 1 more small male (1 female was mated day before and now is preparing to lay eggs) Larvae 1) mushi-king T. dichotomus (or A. dicjotoma - the old name) - 3 (was 4 - 1 died day before ! ) 2) coconut beetle O. rinoceros - 7 (was 16 of them - 9 died ! ) 3) small tag beetle D. arrowi (or so I was told) - 7 4) some flower beetle - I think 6 or 7 my aspirations: I'm considering to get may be 1 pair of really big size C. caucasus; also I really want to get at least 2 pairs of E. siamensis - special entirely BLACK body 5 beetle (almost same like E. grasilicornis, but not brown body like that one) which is native ONLY to Thailand ! and may be later on, when I get enough experience and if I am lucky and can afford it - H. nigritus (looks like Indon H. buquety, but horns shape is a bit different), also endemic to Thailand only. and of course my dream is to get and breed A. mollenkampi - golden stag beetle. so, here it is my list.
  5. Oh, yes, you're right ! I mixed it up with Heliocopris ("elephant-dung beetle") LOL
  6. so, what does it eat - fruit jelly, or ... elephant dung ? (because it is dung beetle after all)
  7. Trychogomphus martabani too ? and what do you feed it? (is that something stinky or not ? )
  8. I've got them last week, 2 pairs. females are busy now burred themselves somewhere deep in substrate. males though are more easily available for photos here are these horny fellas :
  9. Hi, Love_Beetles ! nice to see you here. do you have some nice photos of your beetles? which beetles do you keep ?
  10. frankly speaking - I don't know, because this is first time I've got them. but normally in the wild they would have 1 year cycle I guess and now during rainy season they are active (mating, laying eggs) and then in Nov-Dec will probably die or those species which live longer - I guess will go to "sleep" (hibernate). these small beetles X. gideon I think take 1 year cycle. I'll check in some literature and confirm it to you.
  11. click on those Links above (underlined text saying 'taken from Thai Forum ')
  12. and here are my beetles X. gideon, quite small actually, but cool nevertheless :
  13. I bet it does. the bigger the better.
