  1. That thing is amazing! so it eats the head then consumes everything but the exoskeleton? Sounds like aliens to me. How does it keep the millipede body from coming apart? How long does it take for the glowworm beetle to consume an adult millepede?
  2. wow thats crazy, do you know what the species of leaves they are eating? Or are they generalists? Anyone?
  3. Hey anyone out there know what the current stance on keeping beetles is? If there is a specific stance or is it just a blanket clause for all invertebrates? Thanks. Joel
  4. Looks like a hairy burying beetle. Similiar in appearance to the American Burying Beetle that is endangered. Parents use thier legs to conveyor-belt small dead animals to a safe location to bury their salvage and then lay their eggs on it.
  5. Interesting... is the smell just sent into the air or through a liquid secreted onto the attacker?
  6. Thanks Orin. Will I be able to sex it by the "dot" on the ventral side?
  7. looks like a ruteline. but has faded stripes like 10 line potato bugs.
  8. I found a grub under a pile of old leaves. Seems to be flower beetle of sorts. "Walks" on it's back and is roughly about 1.5" white bodied with a prominent orange head and formidable mandibles. When I first found it, it looked nothing like it does now. It was small with no prominent orange head. What stage do beetles acheive the large head with mandibles? I will upload a pic asap. Thanks. Joel
  9. Has anyone encountered this beetle in significant numbers? joel
  10. Ailanthus, aka tree of heaven an invasive from asia was used for silk moth industry. Does any one know if native moths use this as host tree for larvae? Joel
  11. Can't wait to see the photos and really want to know how you got animal planet to come out? Joel
  12. Are eggs collected, from within, a newly dead beetle viable? Joel
