  1. I am so excited! I had to share with you all that I got my first live beetles today in the mail! 3 pairs of D. granti along with one giant grub. I also got the book "The Ultimate Guide to Breeding Beetles" by Orin McMonigle in the mail today, so that was good timing. I really hope I can keep them happy and healthy!!
  2. Hi Everyone, I'm Katie and I have an addiction to bugs. I actually make my living off of dead insects (see my etsy shop, www.insectart.etsy.com), so it's a whole new realm for me to enter the world of live ones. I started off with a preying mantis egg case this spring, and got hooked! I raised lots of caterpillars this summer, and kept two mantises to adulthood. I've had a tarantula in the past (A. versicolor), and a couple jumping spiders (LOVE those guys!!!), but I think these beetles are going to be the coolest thing ever. I just got my first ones in the mail today; three pairs of D. granti, plus one humongous grub! I also got my book, Orin McMonigle's Ultimate Guide to Breeding Beetles in the mail today. My D. granti are in a giant 65 gallon enclosure, and I hope they feel at home there. So glad to have found all of you! Katie Topeka, KS http://www.insectart.etsy.com http://www.insectartonline.com
  3. Yes, I am talking about live beetles in this case. However, USFW caught me one time importing "commercial quantities" of dead insects, and required me to obtain a Wildlife Import Permit. Thank you very much, everyone, for confirming my suspicious about this deal. Yes, I think I did find him on insect net.com. I know people from Africa on there are generally scammers, but since this one said they were located in the US, I thought maybe...... However, asking to wire the $ via Western Union sent up a huge red flag. Plus, this guy wasn't answering some of my questions. Another man claiming to be selling Hercules beetles within the US wanted me to send the funds directly to a "school for blind children" in Africa. Right. :\ Oh well, Dynastes granti it is!!! Sigh.
  4. I have a seller who claims to be selling all kinds of Goliathus sp. from within the US. I know these are native to Africa, so is this even legal in the United States? He claims that his shipping company takes care of all the paperwork, etc., and that I don't have to do anything but sign for the package. I'd love to have some, of course, but don't want to get in trouble. His name is Arnold Bois, and now he wants paid via Western Union. Sigh....
  5. Wow, I totally just ordered one! Thanks!!
  6. Hi! I'm in Kansas too! Topeka. Just getting started here; don't have any beetles yet, but am getting my tank set up. It's a 65 gallon aquarium, so hopefully can keep several things. Do some species get along with different species?
